Recording SOUP!

Currently, I am working with SOUP! to record, mix and produce their new single. After a long 9 hour day in the studio, the band were happy with the result leaving me to begin mixing. Here is a small insight into the recording session:

AKG 414's as overheads in a cardioid polar pattern — AKG 414's as drum overheads

AKG 451 as a hi-hat microphone

Placed inside the kick drum in line with the kick drum beater to capture the attack and punch of the kick drum — Electro-Voice RE20 as a kick drum microphone

Amp placed on a chair to reduce reflections from the floor. Two Sm57's placed in the Fredmans technique position just left of the centre of the con.e — SM57 Fredmans technique on guitar amp

Placed closed to the grill to reduce proximity effect. Microphone is placed centre of the cone — The Electro-Voice RE20 on the bass amp
